Blepharitis?

This morning I went for my yearly eye appointment. After the optometrist had finished thoroughly inspecting my eyes, he said I had crusty flakes around my eye lashes and said I was prone to a condition called Blepharitis, and that i should wash my eyes with warm water for 5-10 minutes twice a day. But my question is, is Blepharitus a serious condition? I'm very worried because i've never had anyone tell me I had or was prone to a condition. I googled it and saw some very disturbing images... can anyone provide any information about this? I'm age 13, if that helps...
