Whats the meaning of nearly all the Baltic countries ending wit IA?

We've adopted the slavic version of these countries' names. The ia is the westernised rendition of the cyrillic back-to--front R and it's a similar construction to the English and German system of sticking -land on the end. The exception in your list is Romania which (like Australia) is a Latin construction.
