Why is van's battery light coming on?

We thought it was the battery so we got a new one. BUT the light came on again so we thought maybe the alternator. We took it to the shop today and they said they couldn't find a thing wrong on the diagnostics and of course the light wouldn't come on for them. The van never went dead. What could be making the light come on? Plymouth Town and Country 2000.
