How can I encourage my half-Jewish friend to research his Jewish roots?

I am 100% Jewish. One of my best friends has a Methodist mother, and a non-practicing Jewish father. My friend says that he identifies as "Agnostic", believes in G-d, is not interested in practicing any specific religion, but occasionally attends church services on Sundays, and sometimes goes to High Holiday services. My friend is an excellent violinist, things that Jews are known for.and a genius at math and science, very J Growing up, although they celebrated Hanukkah and Christmas, there was no one there to teach him about his Jewish roots, heritage, religion, or culture. He never attended Hebrew School, and never became a Bar Mitzvah. He can not read a single word of Hebrew, and does not even know any of the letters. His mother never told him about ALL parts of his heritage, and his Jewish father never bothered to tell him either. My other friend has been pushing for him to research what the Jews have done for humanity and science. There's a reason that he's good at violin.
