The main MEANING to Watchmen? About existence not really being relevant?

what is that "subject" called? Where the whole subject covers the beliefs of human existence being completely irrelevant, the earth could explode and the universe wouldn't even notice.. that type of thing, what is that subject? I'd like to look further into it.... thanx
